And down the stretch they come

Author: 2nd Half Chas

The replay of the 141st Kentucky Derby has been available since last Saturday

Sill haven’t watched it

Have a few things to do for this week’s show but later today it’ll be played on the big screen

There are a few reasons that I’ve been saving it

Our Kentucky Derby day tradition has been great

It’s one of the most important weekends of the year

Family, friends, room key & gambling all while never leaving Del Mar (PLEASE do not underestimate the importance of #3)

If you’ve ever been to Del Mar you know how special it is

Those that haven’t simply need to imagine any Southern California beach city then add class

We’re talking polo club and equestrian competition demographics

Just a real special couple of days

Reading the Racing Form has always been work to me

Especially when you’ve already invested 20 minutes on a race and end up crossing it off your plays

There are only a few days a year where the quality and quantity of the horses are equal

The 1st Saturday in May is one of those days

You can’t blame Churchill Downs for increasing the time between posts when there are that many people ready to bet on their opinion

Waiting for almost 2 hours between races is never a problem at our party and it actually goes by pretty quick

The last few minutes are when the nerves kick in

Hours of watching video, pulling numbers, analyzing data and hoping you’ve bet it right all come down to right around 120 seconds

Having the horse but not cashing is really the most painful way to lose the Derby but some years it’s hard to throw out some of the 3 year olds

This year was different

Never before has it happened

For me anyway

Three of them across the track well ahead of any other horses

Any of them could win

It was going to be an incredible finish

One difference this year was that all three of them were the same 3 picks we had in our Oaks/Derby Daily Double

For the 1st time in all the years of betting the Kentucky Derby I was able to watch the entire stretch run knowing that it wasn’t a question of would we win but just a matter of how much

We had all three

Twitter will get the 1st ever retweet of our own post later today when we recycle those 140 characters from Saturday morning (our Twitter feed is the first thing you see when the web site opens)

Giving out the Oaks/Derby Double and the Derby Trifecta (& Exacta) over Social Media was pretty co
