Great Win or Really Bad Beat

Author: 2nd Half Chas

This was originally posted 11/1/11 and has slight edits including the numbering

Going through 4 years of blogging for the new web site we found this gem

It’s a game that stands for everything good & bad that sports betting is in 1 game:

Sitting on a friend’s patio on Saturday night watching the Stanford/USC game was a special treat

The occasion was a Halloween party and the host had a TV in every room with a different game on each

As mentioned, the patio was showing the LA Coliseum while the Wisconson/Ohio State game was playing in the main room

For all the SDSU alums in attendance the den was showing the Aztecs hosting Wyoming (as painful as that was)

Stanford had the ball with 5:09 left in regulation and the score tied 27-27

Then there was a pick 6 and before you could blink The Cardinal were trailing by 7 and they were 7 Visit This Link.5 point favorites

Time to tear up that ticket

This one’s over

Unless…

One of the other guests was a young lady that obviously noticed our rapid change in demeanor

We explained to her that technically (for gambling purposes anyway) USC was now winning by 14.5 points and for all intents and purposes the game was over

She asked if there was any way at all that Stanford could win

Well (we said laughing) sure

If…

1) Stanford somehow scores in the last few minutes to tie the game and force overtime

2) USC has to get the ball 1st in OT

3) Whatever they do, whether it’s no points or a field goal or a TD

4) Stanford has to do the same exact thing so we get a 2nd OT

5) Then USC will get the ball 1st in the next OT

6) And once again whatever they do Stanford has to match it exactly so we get to a 3rd OT

7) Once they are in the 3rd OT teams can no longer kick extra points and must go for a 2 point conversion

8) So then Stanford has to score a TD AND get the 2 point conversion

9) Then USC has to either fumble, throw an interception or not score a TD on 4th down

If that were to happen…I told her

If EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THOSE THINGS WERE TO HAPPEN

Then YES Stanford could win and cover
