Gambling always has and always will be a craft that requires effective money management
We all know friends that went 5 for 6 and had that one loser in every parlay so instead of cashing…they’re trashing
Our 8TeamParlay program focuses on straight bets (85% of the $$) and we use the balance (15%) for our parlays as insurance (just in case)
Every week we find one of the so called “Experts” and buy their picks
Then we bet those games and tell you how they did
The 1st “Expert” we’re reviewing this season is The Gold Sheet (www.goldsheet.com) AKA TGS
They are (according to their web site) America’s No. 1 Sports Handicappers For Over 5 Decades
Many of you have probably heard Bruce Marshall (Editor of TGS) on your local sports talk radio stations
In the years before Al Gore was kind enough to invent the internet you could find TGS sold at various retail outlets (liquor stores, places that carry the Racing Form, etc) and the folded paper is actually Gold in color
We needed to find a location to buy the sheet so we called the toll free number listed on their web site [800-798-GOLD(4653)] AND THEY ANSWERED THE PHONE (That’s an instant A+ in customer service*
Since it was week 1, they we’re still organizing the retail locations so we ordered off their web site
TGS offers some of its products by the single issue (weekly) as well as for the season
The most expensive price listed on their Buy Products page is the FB Season Ticket @ $1,299 for the season
The lowest priced item is their Single Issue Football Gold Sheet @ $8 for the week
The Single Issue is what we purchased, downloaded and printed (could not have been easier)
(Please remember that since the NFL Regular Season hadn’t started yet all the selections in this week’s TGS were NCAA Games)
The printout was 12 pages
Page 1 – Bruce wrote a nice article on the “Revenge” factor and some features of one of their other products TGS Extra (Also $8) and had one pick from that publication’s Technical Play of the Week (It was Army +10 over NIU)
Page 2-4 – The College Analysis section is the heart of the Gold Sheet. They listed 4 key releases along with the projected final score from many of the games (40 total) followed by a quick paragraph with some notes on the logic used to determine the predicted outcomes
Page 5 – The LV lines for all the games were listed as well as the “Looking for an Angle” section by TGS Chief Analyst Gary Olsham. It listed 20 games with a small notes sections on some angles you may want to take into account
Page 6-7 – They listed the 2011 NCAA Opening Ratings, the Final NFL 2010 Ratings and a “Special Ticker” section by Carl Giordano, Managing Editor that covered injuries, suspensions and other information
Page 8-12 – Listed the logs for the 1st 3 weeks of the NFL Exhibition and the Final 2010 Log for every NFL and NCAA team
The information included is something that you will reference throughout the season and you get all of it for $8 for one issue
So how did they do?
OVERALL 21-16-3 = 57%
KEY RELEASES 1-2-1 = 33% (One key release was a “lightning game” and so a push)
Anytime you are betting all straight bets and the line is -110
A 53% winnning percentage is right around break even (we’ll try not to over analyze)
If you had bet the same amount on every game TGS listed you were a WINNER
Taking into account all 4 categories we use there is no other choice but to congratulate TGS
The Gold Sheet is a WINNER
If you read our previous post then you know we used TGS as a consultant and only picked (and bet) the games that we both agreed on
Our 8 1st half bets were 7-1 and our 8 game wagers were 5-3
You can use a calculator or a spreadsheet (take off your shoes if you must) …anyway you add it up
TGS helped us go 12-4 and 12-4 = 75%
75% ARE YOU KIDDING ME (we’re still enjoying occasional bouts of giggling)
We should stop right now and go out on top…NOT
Let’s do it again this week
We’re going to find another expert to review and we’ll have our picks up ASAP
Boy we sure missed football
PS
Did we mention our picks were 75% winners this week
